Coastal Structures
Casey Key – Steel Sheet Pile Seawall
Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., (ECE) is responsible for managing all design, permitting, engineering and construction for construction of a 500-ft vertical oceanfront steel sheetpile wall to protect storm-threatened upland properties.
Casey Key Geotextile Container System
Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., (ECE) is responsible for managing all design, permitting, engineering and construction of an 800 ft x 30 ft x 8 ft geotextile container system and beach fill placement to provide protection of upland property and reduce high frequency flood damage to upland development.
Bloody Point Inlet – Coastal Structures (2 Groins)
Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc. (ECE) was commissioned by the Bloody Point Owners Association (BPOA) to design, permit and engineer two coastal structures (T-Head groins), and to conduct beach condition surveys of the sand quantities moving along the coastline fronting Bloody Point to monitor the pre-and post construction effects of these structures. Ms. Erickson also served as Bloody Point’s Coastal Engineering expert witness in litigation between the State of South Carolina Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) and Bloody Point Property Owners from 2002 to 2004.
Emerald Beach Groyne Design & Permitting
Three T-Head Groynes are planned for construction to stabilize the beaches following sand placement.
Mason Inlet South Channel Bank Stabilization
Karyn M. Erickson, P.E. directed and managed all planning, design, acquisition of State DCMs, permits, engineering and contract documents to construct a 410 ft long sand-filled geotextile container revetment for the protection of the Shell Island Resort. The project provided short-term interim shoreline stabilization of Mason Inlet, a rapidly migrating inlet, until the long-term Mason Inlet Relocation Project could be constructed.
Lido Beach Hotel Project
Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., (ECE) is providing coastal and civil engineering services for the development of the Lido Beach Hotel.
Jupiter Island Sheet Pile Seawall
Ms. Erickson, as the Project Engineer was responsible for managing all design, permitting, engineering and technical specifications for construction of a 600-foot vertical oceanfront sheetpile wall with a rock toe apron to protect a segment of storm-threatened County Road.
Bay Island Park Concrete Seawall Replacement
Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., (ECE) was commissioned by Sarasota County to provide civil and coastal engineering services for the design, engineering, permitting, and the preparation of construction documents for the removal and replacement of a 100 ft section of reinforced concrete seawall at Bay Island Park. In addition to potential future failure of the wall from spalling, there is currently a misalignment of the top elevation of the wall compared to adjacent seawalls which poses a safety hazard. As a result, the elevation of the replacement wall will be increased to be flush with the adjacent walls.
Siesta Key Beach Access Site Improvements
Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc, (ECE) was commissioned by Sarasota County to provide civil and coastal engineering services for the design, engineering, permitting, and the preparation of construction documents for the improvements to the Siesta Key Beach Access #3. These improvements include removal of concrete rubble and rebar debris along the beach, which was the result of an old seawall removal. This site is a public beach access which had to be closed due to the hazardous nature of the debris. ECE is undertaking the excavation and removal of the debris to a safe elevation below the sand to protect the public’s safety. The design and permitting efforts are on a “Fast-Track” to complete construction prior to sea turtle nesting season.
