Karyn M. Erickson, M.E., P.E., D.CE.
Karyn M. Erickson, M.E., P.E., D.CE., is President of Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., which is based in Sarasota, Florida. Ms. Erickson has 29 years of experience in applied coastal and estuarine engineering, from the planning and field investigation phases through permitting, final engineering and construction.
ECE has completed many coastal engineering projects in the U.S. and the Turks and Caicos Islands, working through all phases of these projects. ECE recently conducted all design, permitting and construction drawings to reopen Midnight Pass for Sarasota County. ECE also worked with Lee County, Florida in the design and permitting for a similar project to reopen Blind Pass. ECE has completed several large scale coastal construction projects including the Casey Key Geotextile Container project (2011) and the Pelican Point and East Grace Bay Beach Nourishment projects (2007).
Ms. Erickson is a registered Professional Engineer in five states including Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina and North Carolina. In 2010, Ms. Erickson was one of the first candidates in the U.S. to earn the prestigious Diplomate of Coastal Engineering certification. She is also a recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers “2005 John G. Moffatt-Frank E. Nichol Harbor and Coastal Engineering Award”.
Ms. Erickson currently serves as Chairman of ASCE’s Committee on Sustainability Certification program. She is a Board Member of the Association of Coastal Engineers and Executive Board Member of the Civil Engineering Certification, Inc. which certifies civil engineering certification programs within the U.S. She has served on Boards at the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Coastal Engineering Research Needs and the State of Florida, Coastal Engineering Technical Advisory Committee. Ms. Erickson has authored over two dozen published articles and reports.
