Karyn Erickson Inducted as Diplomate in Coastal Engineering, April 2010
The Academy of Coastal Ocean Port & Navication Engineers (ACOPNE) Inaugural Induction Ceremony
Reston, Va. – Specialty certifications programs are growing in most professions as the knowledge needed to practice continues to rapidly increase. Founded in 2009 by the ASCE’s Civil Engineering Certificate Board (CEC), ACOPNE was created to offer an advanced post-license credential that provides professional engineers an opportunity to gain further recognition. The goal of ACOPNE is to improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the ACOPNE profession and provides recognition to those individuals who have excelled in one or more of the sub-disciplines embraced by COPRI.
Karyn M. Erickson, P.E., D.CE. was inducted as Diplomate in Coastal Engineering. The American Society of Civil Engineer’s (ASCE) Academy of Coastal Ocean Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) held its Inaugural Diplomate Induction Ceremony Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the PORTS 2010 Conference in Jacksonville, Fla. Ms. Erickson is the President of Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc. located in Sarasota, Florida and has 28 years of experience in applied coastal and estuarine engineering with a focus on solving coastal problems. She has successfully completed many local coastal construction projects including Sarasota County Park Improvement Projects at Bay Isle Park, Manasota Beach Park on Lemon Bay, Beach Access 12 and several beach restoration and erosion coastal projects for private owners on Casey Key.

Karyn Erickson, P.E. M.E., receives recognition for her outstanding services and leadership (2008 – 2009) as President of the Civil Engineering Certification (CEC) Board of Directors and accepts this award from the President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Blaine D. Leonard and CEC Board President, Bijan Mohraz.
Erickson Honored with Moffatt-Nichol Award
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is pleased to announce Karyn Erickson, P.E., M.E. as recipient of this year’s John G. Moffatt-Frank E. Nichol Harbor and Coastal Engineering Award.
Established in 1977, and endowed by the engineering firm Moffatt & Nichol, the award recognizes new ideas and concepts that can be efficiently implemented to expand the engineering or construction techniques available for harbor and coastal projects. The Harbor and Coastal Engineering award is given annually to honor John G. Moffatt and Frank E. Nichol, the firm’s co-founders.
Erickson is the first woman to receive this prestigious award and she is recognized for her outstanding contributions to the advancement and practice of coastal engineering. Her efforts in engineering project design, integration of environmental concepts, creative funding structures and sustained professional leadership have successfully enhanced the harbor and coastal engineering fields.
